Graphic: Motorradtest.de Honda strong, BMW and Ducati have to let spring.
Honda was able to defend its top spot in new registrations from May in June as well. The market share of motorcycles (everything except scooters and 125cc) is 19.1%. BMW continues to lose ground to 14.6%. Ducati has also lost, now occupying 6th place with a market share of 5.6%. Despite the new 800 models, Suzuki only has a market share of 4% - we would have expected more. Overall, June 2023 was a good month. A whopping 31.3% percent more registered motorcycles than in June 2022, that's something to be proud of.
If you look at the most popular models, there are also a few surprises: The Honda CMX 500 Rebel is in 4th place, just behind the new Transalp 750! In general, Honda can accommodate five models in the top 10 - runs at the Japanese. Kawasaki is happy about the perennial favorites Z900 and Z650, which will probably still be in the top 5 in 100 years. The Honda Hornet 750 continues to annoy the Yamaha MT-07 and is just ahead of it, but only with seven more units sold. Another surprise is the Aprilia RS 660 in 11th place.

Overall, there is a trend towards the middle class: In the top 20 there are only 3 motorcycles with a displacement over 900 cc - all others are at 800 cc and less. The mid-range bikes are cheaper than higher-displacement models, so buyers are looking more and more at the price. No wonder, with increased inflation and lower purchasing power. Only the BMW R 1250 GS seems to be subject to different laws. She is still in 1st place with 562 newly registered bikes. Nevertheless, the time for the R 1300 GS is becoming more and more urgent, otherwise BMW will probably soon be caught up by Kawasaki in terms of market share.
