Chain lubrication was yesterday. For the first time, maintenance-free and comfort as with the gimbal drive.
For more than 90 years, the maintenance-free, environmentally friendly and comfortable gimbal drive has been one of the unwavetheable technical cornerstones of BMW Motorrad. With the M Endurance chain, BMW Motorrad now offers a maintenance-free chain with comparable characteristics for the first time.
Like previous X-ring chains, the M Endurance chain has a resident, X-ring enclosed permanent lubricant filling between rollers and bolts. What is completely new, however, is that the additional lubricant added for the rollers and thus the well-known "lubricating chain" is omitted as well as the re-tensioning necessary from time to time due to the usual wear and tear. This enormous increase in comfort was made possible by the use of a new coating material for the rolls: tetraheic amorphous carbon (ta-C), also known as industrial diamond. This coating is characterized by extreme hardness and resistance and is arranged between the well-known DLC coating (Diamond Like Carbon) and the pure diamond. In contrast to previously used metal surfaces, the coating with the ta-C industrial diamond does not wear off. At the same time, this type of coating also offers a drastically reduced friction value.
With excellent dry lubrication properties and eliminated wear, the M Endurance chain's tetrahedral carbon coated rollers offer maintenance comfort equivalent to that of the gimbal drive. This includes the unavoidable cleaning work carried out by sprayed lubricant in a conventional chain. Accordingly, the M Endurance chain also offers maximum environmental friendliness. The M Endurance chain in 525-piece is now available for the two four-cylinder models BMW S 1000 RR and S 1000 XR.
The price for the M Endurance chain is 286.08 euros (RRP) and a complete set of chains including drive pinion, sprocket and small parts costs 425.59 euros (RRP). If the M Endurance chain is ordered directly as optional equipment ex works, the additional charge is 100.00 Euro (RRP). The equipment option for further BMW Motorrad models is in preparation.
