In the fourth episode of the Ducati World Première 2024 web series, Ducati presented the new Multistrada V4 RS, the sportiest, most sophisticated and exclusive Multistrada ever developed by the Bologna-based manufacturer. The Multistrada V4 RS is the latest addition to the Multistrada family, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. It is equipped with the Desmosedici Stradale engine, derived from that of the Panigale V4. The motorcycle is produced in a numbered series.
Thanks to the V4 engine with desmodromic valve timing, the Multistrada V4 RS offers unique driving performance and experiences, while maintaining the usual balance of the Multistrada family. The unmistakable sound of the Desmosedici Stradale with dry clutch and Akrapovič silencer ensures a unique driving experience that is made unforgettable by the spirited and exciting power delivery. Thanks to Öhlins suspension, aluminium single-sided swingarm and forged wheels, even the chassis of the sportiest Multistrada is convincing all along the line.
Discerning motorcyclists will appreciate the technical and stylistic details that make it a unique motorcycle with personality and substance. The Centro Stile designed the RS logo, which becomes a real characteristic element of the model. It can be found in the paintwork, on the key and in the graphics of the display. The slim rear end, designed exclusively for this bike, contributes to an even sportier look.
The Multistrada V4 RS is a model in which every component, every detail - from the electronics equipped with radar technology to the very light titanium rear frame - has been chosen with a single goal: to create the sportiest touring motorcycle ever. The most exciting Multistrada Ducati has ever developed.
Sporty style
The Ducati Multistrada V4 RS combines the unmistakable line of the Multistrada, elegant and dynamic, with technical solutions from racing, typical of the super-sporty motorcycles of the manufacturer from Borgo Panigale. The name RS has exactly this meaning and is reminiscent of another bike in Ducati's history - the Monster S4 RS - which was created on the same principles.
The different carbon components, such as the front fender, the hand guards (specially designed for this model), the heat shield and the front "beak" form a game of contrasts with the Iceberg White paintwork, which is enriched by various design elements of the Desmosedici from MotoGP.
The sleek and lightweight techno-polymer rear integrates the pillion grips and defines a sporty and unmistakable side view. The titanium rear subframe is a technically elegant component that underlines the sportiness and allows a weight saving of 2.5 kg compared to the standard version.
The Ducati Multistrada V4 RS is produced in a numbered series. The number can be found on a black anodized aluminum plate decorated with the Italian flag, which is attached to the handlebar clamp.
Superbike engine
The Multistrada V4 RS is the only machine in the family to be equipped with the 1,103cc Desmosedici Stradale engine. In order to combine the smoothness and drivability typical of the Multistrada with the personality and sporty characteristics of the Panigale and the Streetfighter, Ducati has retuned the V4 engine. At low revs, the engine has a smooth and smooth power delivery. The character changes when the driver is in the upper rev range. Thanks to the desmodromic valve timing, the engine conveys strong emotions at high revs. A personality that is also expressed by the exhaust sound, which is deep at low revs and as exhilarating at high revs as on the superbikes.
These goals were achieved by using the air filter of the Panigale V4 R, which is more permeable, as well as an exhaust system with Akrapovič silencer, specially designed for the Multistrada V4 RS.
In this configuration, approved according to the Euro 5+ emission standard, the Desmosedici Stradale engine develops a maximum power of 180 hp. The rev limiter only kicks in at 13,500 rpm. This value guarantees sporty driving performance and at the same time the balance that has distinguished the Multistrada V4 since its first version.
In order to make the most of the performance of the Desmosedici Stradale, the final gear ratio has been shortened. The internal gear ratios, on the other hand, remained unchanged.
As with the Panigale V4 SP2 and the Streetfighter V4 SP2, the Multistrada V4 RS also features an STM-EVO SBK dry clutch made of billet aluminum with a special configuration and anti-hopping function. This component, which calms the handling during the braking and clutch phases, also helps to enrich the exhaust sound with its typical metallic sound when the clutch is engaged.
Among the advantages of the dry clutch is the possibility of increasing performance by using the Ducati Corse Performance Oils Powered by Shell Advance. This special performance oil is the result of the collaboration between Ducati Corse and Shell in the Superbike World Championship and MotoGP.
To improve the thermal comfort of the engine, the Desmosedici Stradale has been designed to deactivate the rear cylinder bank when stationary, when the driver has engaged neutral and the engine temperature is higher than 70°. To increase comfort, on colder days, the air ducts that direct the fresh air to the rider's legs can be closed.
The maintenance interval for checking the valve clearance of the Multistrada V4 RS is 30,000 km.
Electronics
The Multistrada V4 RS is equipped with the advanced and sophisticated electronics package of the Multistrada V4 S. The package includes standard front and rear radar technology, which enables features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Blind Spot Detection (BSD).
The electronic equipment of the Multistrada V4 RS consists of 4 Power Modes (Full, High, Medium, Low), Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC), Engine Brake Control (EBC) and Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up&Down, thanks to the information obtained from the Bosch inertial measurement platform.
All these systems have been adapted to the characteristics and purpose of the model and integrated into four riding modes: Race, Sport, Touring, Urban.
For the first time in the Multistrada family, the V4 RS introduces Power Mode Full (linked by default to the Riding Mode Race, which is identified by a checkered flag above the name). This Riding Mode combines maximum power in all gears with direct throttle response. The other power modes have been specially calibrated for the Multistrada V4. In particular:
• High (connected to Riding Mode Sport as standard) provides maximum power in 4th, 5th and 6th gears with a slight reduction in torque in 1st and 2nd and 3rd gears and direct throttle response
• Medium (paired with Riding Mode Touring as standard) also offers maximum power in 4th, 5th and 6th gears with a slight reduction in torque in 1st and 2nd and 3rd gears and smoother throttle response
• Low (default setting in Riding Mode Urban) with power reduced to 84 kW (114 hp) and smooth throttle response
The Multistrada V4 RS is also equipped with a three-stage adjustable EBC (Engine Brake Control), which allows the driver to individually adjust the engine brake depending on the driving style and driving situation.
The sportier tuning of the V4 RS's electronics package is underlined by the display's new graphics. On the main screen, a control panel appears with similar functions to the Infomode Track of the Panigale V4 and Streetfighter V4. This drop-down menu displays the values set for DTC, ABS and DWC in the selected Riding Mode. In addition, the intervention of the Ducati Traction Control and the Ducati Wheelie Control is highlighted by a flashing of the corresponding element in the upper right corner of the display.
The 6.5-inch TFT display, which features special graphics on the Multistrada V4 RS, allows you to navigate maps thanks to Ducati Connect and smartphone mirroring. To support this functionality, the smartphone compartment is equipped with ventilation to cool the phone during intensive use of navigation functions and charging.
Chassis and ergonomics
The chassis of the Multistrada V4 RS has been developed around the 17-inch front wheel, which ensures high steering precision and responsiveness in a sporty driving style. The inclination of the steering head differs from that of the Multistrada V4 S and Rally (25.75° compared to 24.5°). As with the V4 Pikes Peak, the caster and wheelbase indicate a sportier orientation.
Marchesini's forged aluminium wheels, which are 2.7 kg lighter than those of the V4 S, enhance the car's dynamic handling. The Diablo Rosso IV Corsa tyres in sizes 120/70 at the front and 190/55 at the rear offer excellent grip when accelerating and a strong feeling of contact with the ground in the middle of the corner.
The choice of the Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 suspension guarantees the best possible performance in sporty use. This is made possible by the "event-based" system, as in the Panigale V4 S and Streetfighter V4 S, which adjusts itself depending on the individual driving style. The system, which is already used on the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak, has been retuned to achieve the best balance between a high level of ride comfort for relaxed riding and great support for sporty riding.
In particular, the settings of the dynamic system in the Touring and Sport riding modes have been modified to improve ride comfort during relaxed riding while supporting the fun of riding on winding mountain roads. In addition, the hydraulics have been strengthened to ensure driving dynamics even when the rider selects higher damping levels in the various riding modes with luggage and pillion.
The braking system is directly derived from that of the Panigale V4. At the front, the system consists of 330 mm diameter discs and Brembo Stylema monobloc calipers, similar to the Multistrada V4 S, equipped with the pads of the Panigale V4. At the rear, the system includes a single disc with a diameter of 265 mm, on which a Brembo floating saddle acts. The regressive kinematics controller features a smaller diameter pump, which improves braking performance and metering. The system is controlled by the Bosch-Brembo 10.3ME cornering ABS system.
In addition to the carbon and titanium elements, a small battery has been installed to further reduce the weight. In this way, 3 kg are saved compared to the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak.
The new V4 RS offers a sportier riding position than the Multistrada V4, with higher and further back footpegs to increase the maximum lean angle. The handlebars, which are rigidly connected to the triple clamp to improve the riding experience, are lower, narrower and less curved. The new, softer handles have a sportier design.
This ergonomic combination leads to a better driving experience with a sporty driving style and at the same time offers a high level of driving comfort. Great attention has been paid to comfort in order to obtain the best synthesis between sport and touring also on the Multistrada V4 RS.
Accessories
The Ducati Performance catalogue offers various accessories that enhance the characteristics of the motorcycle and make it unique from an aesthetic point of view. Motorcyclists looking to increase the versatility of the Multistrada V4 RS will find various luggage options, from plastic or aluminum side cases to tank and pillion seat bags and various oversized windshields.
To underline the sporty character of the Multistrada V4 RS, the catalogue also offers parts made of billet aluminium, such as levers, footrests, brake and clutch reservoirs or fuel and oil filler caps. In addition, there are numerous carbon details that make the appearance of the Multistrada V4 RS even sportier.
Colors and Availability
The bike will be available in a single version from January 2024 at dealerships in the Ducati network. The standard equipment also includes the front and rear radar. All Multistrada V4 RS models are painted in Iceberg White.
As with all models in the Multistrada family, Ducati also offers the exclusive "4Ever Multistrada" warranty for the Multistrada V4 RS, which is valid for four years with unlimited mileage and is guaranteed by the entire network of dealers of the Bologna-based company in Europe.
