Photos: Ducati Ducati celebrates the anniversary of a true icon in the field of naked bikes
Ducati celebrates the 30th anniversary of the monsters with a special model limited to 500 copies and numbered. With the Monster 30° Anniversario, the Bologna-based manufacturer pays tribute to a motorcycle that revolutionized the world of two-wheelers and has conquered the hearts of more than 350,000 Monsteristi around the world since 1993.
The Monster has always followed the concept of combining a sporty engine, perfect for use on country roads, with a chassis derived from the Superbike. A wide handlebar and the absence of a fairing are also important features of the monsters. The result is an idea that is as simple as it is effective. A motorcycle was created that gave new impetus to the naked segment and has been further developed several times over the years. However, the monster always remained true to the original idea.
This special version also retains the iconic features of the Monster models and impresses with an unmistakable style and maximum driving pleasure on the road. The special model inspires at first glance thanks to the Tricolore 30th Anniversary paintwork, which is inspired by the sportiest monsters of the past. This livery represents the Made in Italy label, of which Ducati is an ambassador. The golden color of the rims, which were specially made for this model, and the Öhlins NIX30 fork provide a classy touch. Other distinctive elements of this model are the seat decorated with an embroidered 30-year logo and the special animation in the display that starts when the ignition is switched on. Finally, each motorcycle is unique thanks to a plaque on the upper triple clamp with the model name and specimen number, a certificate of authenticity and a special tarpaulin.
The Monster 30° Anniversario is equipped with components that improve not only its appearance, but also its dynamic driving characteristics, reducing the curb weight to 184 kg. This is 4 kg less than the standard model, which already sets the benchmark for lightness in this category. This milestone is all the more significant when you consider that components such as the steering damper and the windshield have been added compared to the standard model, thus adding weight.
The modern reinterpretation of the monsters is a lightweight and easy-to-handle motorcycle. It is powered by the Testastretta 11° engine, a liquid-cooled 4-valve twin-cylinder with desmodromic valve timing and 111 hp. An extremely reliable and robust engine as far as maintenance is concerned, because due to the long maintenance intervals (15,000 km for the oil change and 30,000 km for the control of the valve clearance), the Monster rarely needs to be serviced. The engine has a rich power curve at all revs, especially the medium and low revs that are most used on the road. This means a better response of the engine, which translates into more driving pleasure.
The highly functional and efficient chassis of the new monsters is based on the concept of the Ducati Superbikes. The engine has a load-bearing function and is connected to the front frame, which is conceptually reminiscent of that of the Panigale V4.
The fully adjustable Öhlins suspension is equipped with a fork that is 0.6 kg lighter than that of the Monster and Monster+. The result is a better driving experience as well as more ground clearance and thus greater lean angle. The sporty tuning of the chassis allows the Monster 30° Anniversario to be very fun to drive on winding roads, but also between the curbs of a racetrack. Rounding out the Öhlins trim is an adjustable steering damper that increases precision and accuracy at high speeds.
The braking system is equipped with Brembo Stylema® calipers at the front (-0.4 kg compared to those of the Monsters) and aluminum inner rings for the 320 mm front brake discs (0.5 kg lighter than the standard brake discs of the Monsters). This change makes the Monster 30° Anniversario more braking and manoeuvrable thanks to the lower inertia on the front axle. The agile character of the motorcycle is further enhanced by the all-new forged wheels, which reduce the unsprung masses by 1.86 kg and reduce the moment of inertia of the front wheel by 21.8% and the rear wheel by 26.9%.
The electronics of the monsters are at the highest level. Standard equipment includes cornering ABS, Ducati Traction Control and Ducati Wheelie Control, all of which can be adjusted to different levels of intervention. The sporty character of the new Monster 30° Anniversario is also underlined by the Launch Control, which ensures lightning-fast starts. This top-of-the-range equipment of the motorcycle, which also includes a lithium-ion battery that helps to reduce the overall weight of the motorcycle, allows the Monster 30° Anniversario to achieve the best possible performance with the greatest possible safety.
The three riding modes - Sport, Road and Wet - allow you to change the character of the monsters according to the wishes and needs of the rider. It is easy to operate using the controls on the handlebars. The settings are shown on the 4.3-inch TFT color display, which offers racing graphics reminiscent of the Panigale V4, as well as a large tachometer. All other information, such as the gear indicator, is shown in the left part of the display.
The Ducati Monster 30° Anniversario will be available at Ducati dealerships from January 2024.
