The new BMW R 1300 GS Adventure: The rock when it comes to motorcycle adventures and long-distance travel. Almost completely new design with all-round increased adventure expertise.
Crossing the Sahara in scorching heat, climbing the Himalayas or exploring the rainforests of the Amazon – the large BMW GS Adventure with a boxer engine has been synonymous with such long-distance journeys with motorcycle, pillion and plenty of luggage for more than two decades and is confidently at the forefront of the competitive environment. To ensure that this remains the case in the future and that motorcycle adventurers can rely on even more adventure expertise, BMW Motorrad has opted for an almost completely new design in the areas of engine, chassis, body, design and storage space concept for the new R 1300 GS Adventure compared to the previous model, which takes the cornerstones of the BMW GS Adventure to a new level.
"The appearance of the new BMW R 1300 GS Adventure will cause a sensation. It is not only visually that the very large GS differs significantly from its almost dainty-looking sister. Never before have seating comfort, ergonomics and wind and weather protection been so harmoniously combined with precise handling, extraordinary suspension comfort and a high level of running refinement. The new
BMW R 1300 GS Adventure has set itself the goal of redefining the standard of all things in the big adventure motorcycles."
Christof Lischka, Head of Development BMW Motorrad
At the heart of the new R 1300 GS Adventure is once again the legendary two-cylinder boxer engine. The new design, as it was already introduced with the R 1300 GS, is much more compact than the previous model thanks to a gearbox located under the engine and a new arrangement of the camshaft drive. It generates 107 kW (145 hp) at 7,750 rpm from exactly 1,300 cm3 and develops a maximum torque of 149 Nm at 6,500 rpm. This makes it by far the most powerful BMW boxer engine produced in series production to date.
At the heart of the new chassis is the sheet metal shell main frame made of steel, which, in addition to significantly optimising installation space, also has higher stiffness values than the predecessor model. The previous tubular steel construction in the new R 1300 GS Adventure is now replaced by an aluminium trellis rear frame made of aluminium tubes and forged parts. The EVO-Telelever front wheel guide with flex element and the revised EVO-Paralever rear wheel guide also provide even more steering precision and driving stability.
New Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) electronic suspension with dynamic adjustment of damping and spring rate as well as load balancing as standard.
The previous Dynamic ESA Next Generation electronic suspension already offered a high degree of driving safety and driving pleasure on a wide variety of terrains with dynamic adjustment of the damping and adjustable rear spring base. The new Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) electronic suspension now goes one step further and, depending on the selected driving mode as well as the driving condition and driving manoeuvres, combines the dynamic adjustment of the damping front and rear with a corresponding adjustment of the spring rate ("spring stiffness"). The automated adjustment of the spring base ensures load balancing. This once again succeeded in increasing the driving experience on all surfaces. Whether solo, as a couple or with a large luggage – DSA opens up even more driving safety, performance and comfort.
Adaptive Vehicle Height Control and Adaptive Vehicle Height Control Comfort with vehicle lowering as optional equipment ex works.
The new adaptive vehicle height control and the Comfort vehicle height control system are available as optional extras ex works for the chassis of the new R 1300 GS Adventure.
Thanks to the adaptive vehicle height control, the new R 1300 GS Adventure offers fully automatic adjustment of the vehicle height depending on the operating condition, thus combining the greatest possible comfort without having to compromise on driving dynamics and lean angle. When stationary and when driving slowly, the vehicle height is lowered by 30 mm in each case.
For smaller riders or for particularly good accessibility and even easier handling, the new R 1300 GS Adventure can also be equipped with the optional Adaptive Vehicle Height Control Comfort. It has all the features and functions of vehicle height control, but with the addition of a vehicle lowering by a further 20 mm.
Four riding modes now standard. "Enduro" riding mode for an enhanced off-road riding experience.
To adapt to individual rider wishes, the new R 1300 GS Adventure offers four riding modes as standard. With the two driving modes "Rain" and "Road", the driving characteristics can be adapted to most road conditions. With the "Eco" driving mode, it is also possible to achieve the maximum range with one tank of fuel. The additional "Enduro" riding mode enables an enhanced riding experience off paved roads with a targeted set-up for off-road use.
Automated Shift Assist (ASA) for fully automated clutch actuation with manual or automated shifting for even more motorcycle experience as an optional extra.
With the innovative Automated Shift Assistant (ASA), BMW Motorrad offers an innovative technical solution to make motorcycling easier and more comfortable. In line with the motto "simplify your ride", the driving experience comes to the fore even more strongly through the automation of clutch actuation and transmission shifting, without having to forego the emotionally important dynamics of the gear change. The Automated Shift Assistant (ASA) will also be offered as an optional extra in the BMW R 1300 GS from model year 2025.
Full-LED headlights in a new matrix design as well as auxiliary headlights as standard. State-of-the-art LED light units all around with turn signals integrated into the hand guard.
BMW Motorrad is regarded as the pioneer par excellence when it comes to motorcycle safety and the innovations associated with it. Accordingly, the new
R 1300 GS Adventure has a new, very small and attractively designed full-LED headlight with an unmistakable lighting icon as standard. The light unit consists of an LED unit for low beam and high beam as well as four further LED units for the daytime running light and position light, respectively. In addition, the new
R 1300 GS Adventure equipped with two extra-flat auxiliary headlights in LED technology, which blend harmoniously and protected into the body. This combination illuminates the road with an unrivalled bright, clear light and also ensures even better perception in traffic. State-of-the-art LED light units with newly designed LED turn signals – integrated into the handguard at the front, functionally integrated at the rear – round off the lighting concept of the new
R 1300 GS Adventure.
Riding Assistant with Active Cruise Control (ACC),
Front Collision Warning (FCW),
Lane Change Warning (SWW) and – now new – Rear Collision Warning (RECW) for even more safety and comfort when riding motorcycles as optional equipment ex works.
The new R 1300 GS Adventure is already equipped with Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC) with braking function as standard. The Riding Assistant offers many more functions as an optional extra. It consists of the following components:
Active Cruise Control (ACC), Front Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Change Warning (SWW) and the new Rear Collision Warning
Rear End Collision Warning (RECW). The new Rear Collision Warning (RECW) signals to the following traffic by means of hazard lights with increased frequency that an imminent rear collision is imminent. Also for the last year's
BMW R 1300 GS, Rear Collision Warning (RECW) will be available from model year 2025.
New aluminium top case and new aluminium cases with integrated magnetic couplings as an electrical interface for USB charging sockets and lighting as well as optional volume expansion as an optional accessory or optional equipment ex works.
A robust 37-litre aluminium top case is available as an optional accessory for the new R 1300 GS Adventure and a top case holder with vibration-decoupled top case plate, electrical interface for lighting and USB charging socket as well as integrated pillion grab handles as an optional extra. The payload is up to 8 kg.
Ideal ease of use and safe transport of luggage are also offered by the new aluminium cases with a payload of up to 10 kg each. The total capacity is over 73 litres (37 litres on the left, 36.5 litres on the right). They are easily, quickly and securely attached to the innovative pannier holders made of forged aluminium. The magnetic coupling integrated in the left case holder serves as an electrical interface for the USB charging socket in the left case. An even larger storage volume is provided by the volume expansions of 10 litres per pannier, which are also available as an option. They are made of high-quality aluminum and are quick and easy to install.
30-litre aluminium fuel tank with clever mounting options and rubberised shelves. Effective wind and weather protection thanks to the windscreen and hand guards with hand protection extensions.
The new R 1300 GS Adventure comes with a completely new design that sets it apart from its sister R 1300 GS even more than before. A key component of the outer skin in the central body area of the new R 1300 GS Adventure is the 30-litre fuel tank made of sheet aluminium, which is uncovered in large areas. It was particularly important to the developers at BMW Motorrad that the tank with its large outer skin also fulfils its additional task of carrying a piece of luggage in a special way. That's why – for easy, easy refuelling and quick access to the smartphone charging compartment – three fasteners are screwed to the upper tank fairing. This clever solution offers individual fastening eyelets for luggage on the one hand and at the same time provides an articulated storage with snap lock for the 12-litre tank bag with waterproof inner bag and outer pockets, which is available as an accessory.
The sheer width of the tank inspires confidence and effectively protects against weather influences coming from the front. Effective wind and weather protection is also taken into account by the large windshield in conjunction with the two large, transparent wind deflector blades, making the driving experience uniquely quiet and comfortable, even on long journeys. Also part of the standard equipment are the rubberised tank compartments on the right and left of the upper tank fairings. During stopovers, they offer a non-slip, safe place to store utensils.
The new R 1300 GS Adventure: Maximum expedition expertise in an attractive basic variant as well as the Triple Black, GS Trophy and Option 719 Karakorum variants.
Even in the basic version, the new R 1300 GS Adventure leaves no doubt about its purpose. In Racingred uni, she is athletically trained and lures you to committed motorcycle adventures. The silver tank, the black and red seats, black handlebars as well as black rim strips and red handguard extensions provide excellent contrasts.
In the Triple Black model variant (€23,120), the new R 1300 GS Adventure presents itself from its elegant side. Accents in perfectly coordinated black tones and the aluminium tank refined with high-quality Tinted Clear Coat characterise this extraordinary character. Black elements such as the standard engine guard with silver-coloured inserts, handlebars and rim strips, together with the grey-coloured handguard extensions, the large aluminium radiator trims and the comfort seats in black/grey with heated seats, stand for the traditional Triple Black colours. A luggage rack and the high windscreen with the large wind deflectors round off the Triple Black.
The GS Trophy model variant (€23,060) inspires with a sporty colour scheme. The paint surfaces in Racing Blue metallic are complemented by eye-catching tapes in Light White uni and Racing Red uni. Textured powder-coated parts in Avus Black metallic matt form exciting contrasts to the aluminium parts. Red and black seats and red-coloured handguard extensions, together with the stainless steel engine guard and the black cross-spoke wheels, create an attractive play of colours. Black grilles in front of the radiators and the auxiliary headlights provide effective protection against stone chips. The smaller Sport windscreen and the sports grab handles for the pillion further characterise the sporty character of the GS Trophy. Large radiator trims with lashing eyes and the aluminium tank racks also form robust docking elements.
In the 719 Karakorum option model variant (€24,460), the R 1300 GS Adventure is presented in the exclusive Aureliusgreen metallic matt colour. The gold-coloured lining and the Shadow milled parts package complement the high-quality appearance, as does the "Opt. 719" badge on the tank cover. A special eye-catcher are golden anodized components such as rim tapes and handlebars. The standard engine guard is coated in black and the handguard extensions are colored gray. In addition to the small aluminium radiator trims and the protective grille on the auxiliary headlights, the two comfort seats in black/grey with heated seats, a luggage rack and the small Sport windscreen are also included.
