Photos: DucatiXDiavel goes V4!
The latest episode The Ducati World Première 2025 shows the new XDiavel V4, the sports cruiser made in Borgo Panigale. A unique motorcycle whose soul now combines the performance of the V4 engine from MotoGP with a cruiser riding position and the sensual beauty that characterizes all Ducati. An even more muscular, refined and powerful reinterpretation of the concepts introduced with the first XDiavel 1260 in this category.
A motorcycle for those who want something different from anything that already exists and love to stand out from the crowd. It is aimed at enthusiasts looking for a motorcycle with a strong personality, to lovers of cruiser charm who are at the same time fascinated by the dragster performance that has always been a hallmark of the XDiavel.
Her lines are muscular and elegant at the same time. The low and relaxed riding position provides the rider with good control. The strong personality of the motorcycle attracts attention. The XDiavel V4 is a motorcycle capable of gliding along the city's boulevards at low speed with the same naturalness with which it delights the rider on winding country roads.
The XDiavel V4 is a motorcycle with a few surprises. The 1,158 cc Granturismo V4 engine sets standards in its class. With an output of 168 hp and a torque of 126 Nm, it combines a very linear response at low revs with powerful torque over the entire power range. The counter-rotating crankshaft combined with one of the lowest weights in the class (229 kg in running order without fuel) give the XDiavel V4 handling that sets new standards in this segment.
Unmistakable line
The XDiavel V4 is a motorcycle of contrasts. This is clear at first glance. The low and slender line of the sports cruiser, enhanced by the reflections of light on the soft surfaces, provides an exciting contrast to the power and technology conveyed by the mechanical elements. Confident and supercar-inspired lines are enhanced by the exceptional aesthetics and engineering of the four-outlet visible exhaust. Depending on the rider's preference, the XDiavel V4 can be a cruiser on which to enjoy the sunset on a coastal road, or a dragster ready to sprint when changing the traffic lights.
The muscular fuel tank features the new, striking Black Lava and Burning Red colours, which have been specially developed for the XDiavel V4. When exposed to light, they create fluid and elegant reflections. The signature of the front and rear lights and the dynamic turn signals* integrated into the side trim parts, of course in full LED technology, contribute to the unmistakable look of the XDiavel V4. The front DRL* with its double C profile attracts attention in a play of contrasts with the internal structuring of the headlight. Together with the rear light, which is located under the rear fairing, it greets the rider with a lighting effect when the motorcycle is switched on, highlighting the refinement and attention to detail.
The single-sided swingarm made of aluminium gives a clear view of the low, but visually very filigree rear wheel, on which the imposing 240/45 tyre is mounted. The five star-shaped spokes of the rims with machined surfaces reinforce the reference to American muscle cars.
The rider, who can enjoy the comfort of a low seat (770 mm above the ground) and a handlebar that is set back and lowered compared to the XDiavel 1260 to facilitate operation, especially when manoeuvring, has full control of the motorcycle in any situation. Comfort is significantly improved thanks to the rear suspension, which has 25 mm more travel than the XDiavel 1260 and, above all, thanks to the wider and thicker seat. The pillion passenger can also rely on a more spacious (+30% in width, +50% in length) and more comfortable (+25 mm thick) seat, as well as a standard rear grab handle.
If you prefer a riding position that allows you to make even better use of the dynamic qualities of the XDiavel V4, you can move the footpegs further back thanks to a special kit from the Ducati catalogue.
And with the rear fairing available as an accessory, the XDiavel V4 can also become a single-seater.
V4 engine derived from MotoGP
The XDiavel is equipped with the 1,158 cc Granturismo V4 engine, a technical solution synonymous with performance, dynamism and driving pleasure. This is also thanks to the sophisticated technology of the counter-rotating crankshaft, which, as with Ducati's MotoGP machine, reduces the gyroscopic effect and increases agility. The engine is a central element of the motorcycle design, also thanks to the black high-gloss paintwork. This is unique in the Ducatis equipped with V4 engines.
Powerful (168 hp), rich in torque at all revs (with a peak of 126 Nm at 7,500 rpm, 2 Nm more than the Multistrada V4), but also extremely light and compact, the Granturismo V4 (derived from the Desmosedici Stradale of the Panigale V4 and Streetfighter V4) is at the same time powerful, linear and easy to use even at the lowest revs. It also features low operating costs, with key maintenance carried out at 60,000 km intervals (a record). Thanks to the advanced deactivation strategy, it is efficient in terms of fuel consumption and emissions. This function switches off the rear cylinder bank not only when stationary, but also when driving at low revs and low engine load.
The Twin Pulse firing sequence and the special exhaust system, developed with great attention to sound quality, unmistakably characterize the timbre of the V4 Granturismo of the XDiavel V4. The advanced deactivation strategy of the rear cylinders, which allows the engine to operate with seamless transitions as a two-cylinder or as a four-cylinder, creates a change in exhaust noise when switching from one mode to another. A deeper sound with lower frequencies characterises the V4 Granturismo when only the two front cylinders are active, while the frequencies become higher once all four cylinders are in operation.
Chassis
The exhilarating performance of the V4 Granturismo engine is combined with an agility and driving dynamics unexpected for a motorcycle of this type, which translates into great riding pleasure and noticeable safety in every situation. The XDiavel V4 has an empty weight of 229 kg, which means a saving of 6 kg compared to the XDiavel 1260 S. The low weight of the V4 Granturismo and targeted interventions on many elements of the motorcycle have led to this saving. All of this is combined with the refinement of the components. The bike is equipped with an upside-down fork with 50mm stanchions and a linkage shock absorber, both fully adjustable.
The result is a motorcycle that allows for breathtaking acceleration and deceleration with great ease and safety. The power of the 168 hp V4 Granturismo combined with the 240/45 rear tire and the special transmission ratio allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds. The driver feels a really impressive boost.
The braking system with 330 mm discs and Brembo Stylema® calipers ensures record-breaking decelerations of up to 11.5 m/s². A value that is generally only achieved by racing motorcycles and that can only be made possible thanks to a very sophisticated calibration of the ABS system, which benefits driving safety in all conditions.
Electronics
The rider can fully and safely exploit the performance of the XDiavel V4 thanks to a complete and effective electronics package. The XDiavel V4 offers three Power Modes and four Riding Modes: Sport, Touring, Urban and Wet, thanks to which the rider can adapt the engine power and the intervention of the rider assistance systems - Ducati Traction Control, Ducati Wheelie Control and Cornering ABS - to the situation and their preferences.
The cruise control ensures a relaxed ride on the highway, while the improved operation of the Ducati Quick Shift Up/Down system, derived from the new Panigale V4, makes the operation of the transmission less tiring and more effective in a sporty riding style. Finally, Launch Control guarantees a blistering start if you want to take full advantage of the acceleration of the XDiavel V4.
The rider can control all electronic systems via the illuminated controls on the handlebars and the new 6.9-inch TFT colour display with an aspect ratio of 8:3, which was first introduced on the Panigale V4. The display also offers Bluetooth connectivity to pair the smartphone for calls, text messages and music, or to use the turn-by-turn navigation system (available as an accessory) via the Ducati Link app. The optical bonding technology ensures optimal readability even during the day.
Accessories
Enthusiasts who want to improve the touring capabilities of their XDiavel V4 will find numerous options in the Ducati Performance catalogue, starting with the semi-rigid panniers with a total volume of 48 litres. This solution harmonizes perfectly with the XDiavel V4 thanks to the paintwork that matches the motorcycle. They are mounted together with the pillion backrest, the auxiliary headlight and the integrated side handles, thus enabling a comfortable ride even for two. Comfort can be increased even further by using the optional windscreen, which is offered in the Touring version for more wind protection or in the Sport version for a more aggressive look.
Taller riders can improve the ergonomics of the XDiavel V4 by choosing the comfort seat, which is characterized by a greater foam thickness (+15 mm) and a different shape of the rear area. The comfort seat is not only more comfortable for taller riders, but also equipped with a higher quality cover. For those who prefer a low seating position on the XDiavel, the accessories catalog also offers a seat lowered by 15 mm.
The sporty side of the XDiavel V4 is further enhanced by the approved muffler with four titanium end caps, as well as the one-piece rear fairing that can be mounted in place of the pillion seat. In addition, it is possible to personalize the new XDiavel V4 with parts milled from solid, carbon add-on parts, forged rims and brake calipers in red or black.
Colors and availability
For the first time, the XDiavel V4 is available in two metallic liveries, Burning Red and Black Lava, which make it even more unique and whose names, reminiscent of fire, underline the emotions that this motorcycle evokes. For the first time, the XDiavel is offered in red, but in a different red than the iconic Ducati Red and the brilliant Racing Red. Black Lava, on the other hand, enriches the classic, glossy black typical of the world of cruisers with warm tones that reflect the unique, complex and sophisticated personality of the XDiavel V4.
The XDiavel V4 will arrive at dealerships in May 2025.
