Photo: YAMAHA It's been four decades since the original XT600 Ténéré made real adventures possible for everyone for the first time. This original Ténéré was developed on the basis of the Yamaha Dakar racing motorcycles. It opened up a new world for adventure seekers and made it possible for the driver to break out of the comfort zone and discover new, far-flung places.
Since then, the Ténéré has been the travel companion for many thousands of drivers from all over the world. Of course, the Ténéré has constantly evolved during this time. More recently, the launch of the Ténéré 700 caused a sensation. It encouraged a new generation of drivers to pursue new horizons.
Within a very short time, the Ténéré 700 became an absolute success internationally. Its strengths are the high-torque CP2 engine, the versatile chassis and the exemplary durability and reliability. It is a worthy successor to the original motorcycle that changed motorcycling so sustainably. Professional riders such as multiple round-the-world cyclist Nick Sanders or extreme enduro star Pol Tarrés are also convinced of this versatile adventure bike.
Following the huge success of the Ténéré 700 and the Ténéré 700 Rally Edition, Yamaha is now introducing the ultimate adventure bike for long-distance travellers. It offers adventurers completely new possibilities.
The new Ténéré 700 World Raid: Discover new horizons
Yamaha opens up a new dimension of adventure travel with the new Ténéré 700 World Raid. It is a premium long-distance motorcycle that offers excellent characteristics both on and off-road.
The newest member of the Ténéré 700 family gives all types of drivers the chance to live out their dreams. It invites you to rediscover the freedoms that define motorcycling.
With its equipment, the Ténéré 700 World Raid surpasses all previous Ténéré models. It has a state-of-the-art suspension, optimal ergonomics, a design inspired by rallying and a multi-mode cockpit with connectivity. It is a motorcycle that makes the world seem much smaller.
Two side-mounted fuel tanks with a total capacity of 23 litres
The Ténéré 700 World Raid is Yamaha's most extreme long-distance adventure bike. It allows the driver to experience more adventures than ever before. However, one thing that every long-distance driver has in mind is the availability of fuel in remote areas.
The new, side-mounted 23-litre fuel tanks provide relaxation on long journeys and eliminate worries about range. Under normal conditions, these new tanks allow a range of up to 500 km. This makes the Ténéré 700 World Raid a true master of the wilderness.
When it comes to increasing capacity, the unique, double-sided tank layout offers a number of significant advantages compared to simply raising and widening a single tank. Thanks to two separate, lowered tanks and a fuel pump positioned further down in one of the tanks, the centre of gravity of the motorcycle can be kept almost at the same level as the Ténéré 700 with its 16-litre tank. This helps to maintain agile handling despite the higher weight due to the larger fuel supply.
The vehicle mass is thus further centralized – with an ideal wheel load distribution of the weight.
An important feature of this new design is that the highest point of the new side double tanks is lower than that of the tank of the Ténéré 700. This reduces the height difference between the tank and the seat. The flatter profile allows the driver to move much better and shift his weight when driving off-road.
Another advantage of this dual tank design is that it reduces the movement of the fuel compared to a large tank. This is particularly advantageous when cornering. Finally, the two side-mounted fuel tanks of the Ténéré 700 World Raid are not simply reminiscent of the motorcycle's desert rally tradition. Rather, they are clear proof that this new adventure model shares much of the DNA with some of the most successful Yamaha Factory bikes.
Flat seat for better mobility of the driver
In addition to the lower height of the new double tank, the Ténéré 700 World Raid also offers a seat height of only 890 mm. Thanks to the smoother transition between the tank and the seat, the profile is significantly flatter. This design allows the rider to perform weight shifts with minimal effort, ensuring optimum off-road control at all times. The new ergonomics are equally perfect for driving while sitting or standing.
The seat is two-piece. The rear part can be easily removed. This allows accessories to be mounted, such as a luggage rack. The seat is made of two differently rough materials, which contributes to the best possible handling.
5 inch TFT color display with mobile connectivity
The new 5-inch TFT color display is connected to the motorcycle's Communication Control Unit (CCU), which communicates with the MyRide app. It ensures connectivity in the form of notifications via text messages and incoming calls displayed in the cockpit.
The drivers of the Ténéré 700 World Raid can choose three different representations on the new 5-inch TFT colour display. The "Explorer" screen layout features a modern, digital design that displays all the essential operating data of the motorcycle in a contemporary and easy-to-read display. The "Street" screen shows a rev counter as a round instrument and is reminiscent of the traditional look of the analogue era. The "Raid" mode is inspired by a typical rallying roadbook. With its two independent countdown tripmeters, it shows the driver the distance to the next waypoint.
On the right side of the cockpit is a USB Type A port that can be used to operate navigation systems or charge mobile devices.
On/off-road ABS with three modes
The new Ténéré 700 World Raid is equipped with ABS, whose three modes are selected when stationary via a special menu in the cockpit and a switch on the right side of the handlebars. This ensures optimum control in changing driving conditions. Mode 1 fully activates the ABS on both wheels, as required by law when driving on public roads. Modes 2 and 3 can be selected for driving on non-public roads. In Mode 2 (a new development for the Ténéré 700 World Raid), the ABS is active on the front wheel and switched off on the rear wheel. This mode is recommended, for example, for gravel roads where little grip is expected. Mode 3 turns off the ABS completely. It is suitable for experienced drivers who want to make the most of off-road driving.
The cockpit indicates when mode 2 or mode 3 is active. The driver can immediately return to mode 1 at any time by pressing a button on the left side of the cockpit – whether while driving or stationary.
High-quality 43 mm KYB upside-down fork with 230 mm travel
The chassis of the Ténéré 700 World Raid offers a number of important features that improve off-road handling. The newly developed 43 mm KYB telescopic fork offers 230 mm of travel – 20 mm more than the Ténéré 700. This ensures increased damping capacity off-road. In addition to the adjusters already available on the Ténéré 700 for rebound and compression damping and the vent screw, the new fork also offers an adjustable spring preload. It allows the driver to adapt the suspension to different terrain conditions and loads.
The 43 mm telescopic fork with longer travel and reduced internal friction has a durable Kashima coating on the outer tube, which stands out due to a dark bronze color. Inside the fork, lightweight components are used to minimize weight despite the longer travel.
Öhlins steering dampers
For improved control – especially off-road – there is an Öhlins steering damper as standard. The steering damper is mounted near the upper triple clamp. This allows the driver to quickly select one of the 18 different damping settings and determine his preferred level of steering feel and feedback on different terrain.
Aluminium high-tech strut with expansion tank and 220 mm travel
The rear suspension has also been revised analogous to the new telescopic fork and now has a modified deflection and a strut with longer stroke and reservoir. The damping properties of the rear suspension, the spring rate and the transmission ratio of the deflection have been optimized. No compromises have to be made: relaxed driving on the road is just as possible as tough off-road driving.
For constant damping performance, the new shock absorber has an aluminum body that ensures good heat dissipation. The separate oil reservoir with expansion tank prevents the formation of steam bubbles. Like the fork, the new strut offers 20 mm more travel and the possibility to adjust the spring preload as well as the compression and rebound damping.
High-torque CP2 motor
Yamaha's legendary liquid-cooled two-cylinder 689cc in-line engine is the driving force behind the new Ténéré 700 World Raid. The CP2 engine, with its 270° crankshaft, which provides the characteristic, uneven firing sequence, is known for its strong, linear torque and extremely spontaneous response with easy-to-control power delivery.
The compact dimensions and low weight make the CP2 unit ideal for the requirements and needs of adventure riders. With its linear torque development, which provides plenty of pressure in the low and medium speed range, this robust, reliable and economical engine is particularly suitable for switching between road and off-road – which is typical for adventure rides. This engine has already proven itself in the top seller Ténéré 700. It is considered one of Yamaha's most ingenious drives. Since its launch, more than 221,000 motorcycles with CP2 engines have been sold.
Air filter box of the Ténéré 700
The Ténéré 700 family has a new air filter box specially designed for extreme terrain conditions. The new airbox of the Ténéré has a forward-facing air intake duct. It prevents the ingress of dust and dirt whirled up by the rear wheel.
Higher windscreen, easily removable side wind deflectors, LED turn signals and front fairing
For additional wind protection on long-distance adventures, the motorcycle is equipped with a 15 mm higher windscreen. Also standard on board are easily removable, side wind deflectors and LED turn signals.
The radiator grilles and the interior trim in the cockpit area are made of robust fiberglass composite. They can also withstand tough off-road use.
Larger footpegs
The Yamaha designers have developed the Ténéré 700 World Raid uncompromisingly at the highest level.
New, larger footpegs underline this attention to detail. The larger surface area provides more support for the rider's boots, reducing pressure on the soles when riding in extreme terrain. A larger surface area also prevents mud and sand from accumulating. The removable rubber inserts improve the grip of the boots on the footpegs in wet conditions.
New three-piece engine guard made of aluminium
For better protection when riding off-road, the motorcycle got a new, three-piece aluminum engine guard. Thanks to the new spring elements with extended travel, the ground clearance is now 250 mm.
New radiator grille
A new radiator grille is used to ensure that the radiator maintains its high cooling capacity off-road. This new grille has vertical louvres similar to those used on Yamaha's off-road competition models. It protects the radiator from swirling stones.
