The corona lockdown in Germany determines everyday life and leisure time. Many motorcyclists are unsure whether they are allowed to use their machine now. ADAC lawyers answer the most important questions.
The high season for motorcyclists is just around the corner. And already now some bikers want or have to use their machine. But beware: depending on the federal state or region, the regulations may be different.
Excursions by motorbike are for the most part not generally prohibited. There is no travel ban in most federal states, but unnecessary travel and visits should be avoided if possible.
Corona contact restrictions prevent group rides
Due to the existing contact restrictions, bikers are currently allowed to stay in public spaces in addition to household members with persons from another household (maximum up to 5 people). Children up to 14 years of age are not counted.
If the 7-day incidence in a region is below 35 new infections per week and 100,000 inhabitants, three households of up to ten people can come together. Here, too, children up to the age of 14 are not counted. If the 7-day incidence is above 100for three days, the limit to another non-household person applies again in this region.
Motorcycle jaunts allowed almost everywhere in lockdown
There are currently no nationwide, only regionally limited exit restrictions. Therefore, in principle, no important reason is needed to leave the apartment. Day trips can take place. Even pure jaunts are allowed by law. It should be noted, however, that tourist overnight stays are still prohibited.
No excursions to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, entry from other federal states is only permitted for certain exceptional reasons. Day trips are prohibited here. Also jaunts are only possible for locals.
Is the bike ride to the workshop or TÜV allowed?
Such trips can take place in all federal states. Workshops and testing centres are open, an appointment should be made in advance.
Gas station: Helmet and visor do not replace a mask
In petrol stations, as in retail, masks are mandatory. Depending on the federal state, an FFP2 mask must be worn or a mask with at least equivalent standardized standards as the so-called medical masks. Helmet and visor do not replace FFP2 (or equivalent) mask.
Incidentally, a helmet ban is usually ordered at petrol stations by the petrol station operators to protect against possible robberies. This prohibition must also be observed in Corona times.
