Photo: ifz Part of the fascination of motorcycling stems from the experience of mastering a machine confidently and controlling it safely and precisely through traffic according to one's own wishes. But we can only do this if we feel comfortable on and with the bike, if we are virtually saddle-proof and have the machine safely under control. The Institute for Two-Wheeler Safety (ifz) explains why this is the case and how we achieve this state. The feeling of saddle strength, which is so important for self-confidence, is already built up when standing. Anyone who already has to fight when ascending due to his body size, for example, and then tilts on the tips of his toes while standing, is far from the desired carefree enjoyment in such moments, may build up insecurities and even fears.
By lowering, this can be effectively remedied. In the simpler case, it is enough to cushion the seat or replace it with a lower one. If this is not enough for a secure stand, the chassis of many motorcycles can be lowered with lowering kits, which the specialist trade has ready.
Among other things, the new podcast from the series
"Motorcycle: But safe!"is about lowering. With a view to the "start of the season", the moderator team in the first edition for this year, in addition to other aspects of technology (vehicle check), takes up points with "clothing" and "driver fitness" that are often given too little attention during the winter break. Just take a look!
"Motorcycle: But safe!", the online motorcycle safety campaign, initiated by the German Motorcycle Industry Association (IVM) in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), will deliver a total of twelve new editions in 2021, which now follow almost every week. The ifz is also part of the party again. Listening in is therefore worthwhile in any case, because with the variety of topics offered, everyone should probably come across a topic area for which the ear sharpening is worthwhile.
