The content:
After a one-sided foreword by Fred Jacobs (his sign responsible for the BMW Motorcycle Oldtimer Collection and the archive at BMW Mobile Tradition) follows a double-page treatise on the company's historical origins. But then she goes, the time travel through the success story of the BMW motorcycles, which was beautifully written by author Peter Gantriis and fabulously documented with photographs, beginning with the year 1923 and the R32.
The book is divided into four chapters (1923-1936 / 1937-1969 / 1969-1984 / 1984-present) and works chronologically through the years on the basis of the most successful BMW motar wheel models. Many technical details and innovations as well as the backgrounds of the respective time are described and comparisons are made with other manufacturers. This gives the reader a good insight into the history of the Bavarian manufacturer. However, most of the pages are filled with large-format images by photographer Henry von Wartenberg. These were recorded with a sense of beauty from unusual perspectives and seem artful and noble. On the last six pages there is a table which lists the technical data of each model.
The conclusion:
An extremely successful journey through time with fantastic impressions. The BMW motorcycles, which are not necessarily known for their beauty, are put into really beautiful poses and show the "beautiful side" of the rather chunky machines. Unfortunately, not every machine finds its place in this successful book, but that would probably go beyond the scope. The work comes with its hardcover very valuable, and it is really fun to browse and browse. A piece of technical history, which I would especially like to recommend to BMW enthusiasts who are interested in the beginnings and the historical background. And, of course, those who appreciate the detailed and high-quality photographs.
