With victories in the categories "Sportsman", "Crossover", "Power Naked", "Adventure Touring" and "Tourer/Sporttourer", as well as a second place and three third places, BMW Motorrad once again achieved a top result in this year's readers' choice of MOTORRAD magazine for "Motorcycle of the Year 2024".
"Together with the entire BMW Motorrad team, I am very happy about these nine awards with a strong five victories. The fact that no less than three M models have won first place in the readers' poll is a fantastic confirmation of the decision to offer BMW Motorrad M models as well. On behalf of the entire team, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the readers of MOTORRAD magazine for their great response. These awards are also a great confirmation of our ambition to inspire our customers and fans with the best offers in the various segments with a highly attractive product range and to further consolidate our leading position in the premium motorcycle market," said Markus Flasch, Head of BMW Motorrad, on the result of this year's readers' poll.
For the fourth year in a row, the BMW M 1000 RR dominates this fiercely competitive and fascinating segment in the "Sportsman" category. With its unique blend of sporty driving dynamics on country roads, the highest racetrack performance and state-of-the-art driving safety systems as well as a highly emotional design, it will once again take first place in the readers' ranking in 2024.
With the uncompromisingly dynamic BMW M 1000 R powerhouse, a second M model from BMW Motorrad takes first place. With its unparalleled chassis technology and aerodynamics, the BMW M 1000 R opens up dimensions of driving dynamics previously reserved for thoroughbred superbikes in its segment and thus conquers the highest podium in the "Power Naked" category. In this category, the BMW R 1250 R, which has a strong character, also took an additional third place.
With the powerful new BMW M 1000 XR long-distance sports car, a third M model from BMW Motorrad is now at the top for the first time ever. The BMW M 1000 XR is equipped with an engine output of
148 kW (201 hp), a DIN kerb weight of only 223 kg as well as chassis technology and aerodynamics designed equally for high-performance country road operation, extended long-distance driving and fast laps on the race track set the new benchmark in its segment and was able to secure first place in the "Crossover" category at the first attempt.
The new BMW R 1300 GS, which was launched with great success, was able to further consolidate the cult status of the BMW Boxer GS models with first place in the "Adventure Touring" category and once again confirmed Bavaria's dominance in this hotly contested segment with its new design, the new engine with a strong character, outstanding handling and convincing driving characteristics both on and off-road.
A repeat offender stands on the top step of the podium with the BMW R 1250 RS. After the commanding victories of recent years, the BMW R 1250 RS can once again be celebrated as the winner in the "Tourer/Sporttourer" segment. Thanks to its excellent all-round qualities of driving dynamics, sportiness and touring capability, it was once again able to keep the strong competition at bay.
In the "Modern Classics" category, the new BMW R 12 nineT was able to secure another top position with second place at the first attempt, impressing with its combination of classic and purist design and modern technology as well as the legendary air/oil-cooled boxer engine with new airbox.
With the BMW R 18, another close relative from the Heritage segment was able to score a lot of points. With third place in the "Chopper/Cruiser" category, the BMW R 18 impresses with its authentic and emotive design based on the unique 1800 cc boxer engine.
In the "Scooter" category, the electrically powered, emission-free BMW CE 04 once again made it onto the podium with third place.
The award ceremony took place on March 18, 2024 in Stuttgart. In the 26th edition of the "Motorcycle of the Year 2024" election, which is considered the most important motorcycle and scooter readers' poll in Europe, 49,707 readers took part this time.
