The new BMW R 1250 GS is just getting started. Before we test the bestseller in detail, it may take a few more days. Compared to the previous 1200 GS, the new engine is particularly worth mentioning. It now produces 136 hp at 7,750 rpm and fat 143 Nm at 6,250 rpm. The new engine is also used in a second machine: the BMW R 1250 RT.
The new boxer has a so-called ShiftCam valve control. There are also small and large camshafts on the camshaft. In partial load operation, the small cams are used, the larger cams do the work from 5,000 rpm in the full load range. BMW shows exactly how this works in an animated video.
