But the TÜV warns: The installation, conversion or attachment on the bike can require an expert opinion from the TÜV. This TÜV SÜD tip informs you about what you need to think about when making changes to the motorcycle.

Change to the vehicle: What should be done?

In the case of special requests that go beyond the extras offered by the vehicle manufacturer, the changes must be officially approved by the official body for your own safety. As a general rule, if changes have been made to your vehicle that suggest a possible danger to road users, change the type of vehicle or worsen the exhaust or noise behaviour, the vehicle's operating licence may expire.

Therefore, if you are planning a change in, a modification or conversion, it is important to inform yourself in advance about which expert opinions and documents you need for this. Be sure to do so in a personal conversation with a TÜV employee. If the pre-integrated, possible stumbling blocks can be identified.

• When tuning, pay particular attention to quality. Changes can significantly affect the safety of a production vehicle; other adjustments are needed. For example, if the engine power is increased, the brakes may need to be reinforced and the chassis changed.
• The scope of delivery of the used add-on parts usually includes an expert opinion from which you can determine whether an acceptance of the modification is necessary and which special features may be observed in order not to jeopardize the operating licence for your vehicle.
