Yamaha and Racing are inextricably linked. Yamaha's sports motorcycles have a very special reputation. Since its introduction in 1999, the R6 has been the supersport motorcycle of choice. Professional racers and trackday enthusiasts alike rely on the R6.
Jamie Whitham won the World Championship race at Donington Park for the second time in 1999. Since then, the likes of Jörg Teuchert, Cal Crutchlow, Chaz Davies, Sam Lowes, Lucas Mahias, Sandro Cortese and Randy Krummenacher have won a world title with her. This year Andrea Locatelli also joined the list of world champions after an outstanding season.
Yamaha R6 RACE
The focus of the R6 is clearly on the race track. Therefore, the 2021 model will only be available as a non-homologated version. Trackday riders and national racers can purchase an R6 RACE as the basis for their ultimate racing motorcycle at a special price from authorized Yamaha partners.
The R6 RACE is powered by a lightweight 599 cc four-cylinder engine with titanium valves. The deltabox aluminium frame and the magnesium rear frame benefit from years of development from Grand Prix racing. KYB spring elements at the front and rear ensure precise handling and a razor-sharp line. The R6 RACE also features traction control, selectable D-Mode driving modes and a state-of-the-art ride-by-wire system. An optionalLy available R6 GYTR Kit provides specially developed components to upgrade the R6 RACE.
The non-homologated R6 RACE will be available from the German Yamaha partners from January 2021.
R6 GYTR Kit
GyTR®'s (Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing) engineers have been developing performance accessories for over 40 years. In close cooperation with top racing teams and test drivers, a wide range of performance-enhancing components has been developed.
The R6 GYTR Kit takes the R6 RACE to the next level – and makes it ready for the starting grid. The kit includes, among other things, an electronic GYTR package with a lightweight harness and a programmable ECU for the best possible tuning. A special air intake system benefits the performance. The Akrapovic Titan Racing complete system is designed to increase engine performance and significantly reduce overall weight.
Stainless steel brake lines provide direct feedback and improved braking feel. The GYTR ABS emulator allows the removal of the ABS unit for further weight reduction. Parts prescribed by the FIM for races, such as a brake lever protection and a chain fin, are also included.
