The BMW R 1250 GS was the first machine to be missed by BMW's new boxer with 1250 cc and variable valve control. Almost at the same time followed the Tourer BMW 1250 RT. Three more models with the new engine are now available: the BMW R 1250 GS Adventuretravel machine, the Roadster BMW R 1250 R and the Sport-Tourer BMW R 1250 RS. This is no surprise and only consistent, because these machines were driven by the previous engine with 1200 cc.
This means that there are now a total of five BMWs with the new R 1250 engine. It produces 136 hp at 7,750 Umin in all R models and a whopping 143 Nm at 6,250 Umin. The special feature of this motor is shiftcam technology, which uses different camshafts at different speeds. An animation video from BMW clearly documents the difference between partial load and full load operation. The older 1200 engine is no longer used in any BMW engine.
