Photos: KTM KTM celebrates 30 YEARS OF DUKE 2024
Without warning, the 2024 KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R and KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R EVO have entered the naked segment, coupled with a clear message to the competition: there's a new BEAST on the hunt for prey.
So it's no surprise that the all-new KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R and its high-tech stablemate, the KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R EVO, are more awe-inspiring than ever.
With 1,350 cc, 190 hp at 10,000 rpm and 145 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm, they race untamed and wild across the asphalt – in a perfectly matching new, aggressive look. Aside from the impressive numbers, the effectiveness with which they bring their performance to the ground makes them even more powerful.
For 2024, THE BEAST has undergone an impressive aposematic evolution, sending a clear warning message to all challengers. Visually, the all-new LED headlight unit dominates, while new tank spoilers and additional winglets make it clear that it is not to be trifled with. There is no longer a brake light in the further reduced boom cover, which provides an even sharper, cleaner look and driving experience. With an overall lower profile and a more compact chassis, the KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R looks more muscular and aggressive than ever. KTM has reduced the height of THE BEAST – but strengthened their charisma.
Air intake and air filter box have been redesigned. The revised fuel tank now holds 17.5 litres, 1.5 litres more than its predecessor. This change not only increases the range to about 300 km, but also fulfills an important ergonomic function. In the fight for every gram, the optimal thickness of each cladding component was calculated and, if possible, minimized. At the same time, new tank spoilers and additional winglets increase downforce.
The lightweight, "smart" headlight design, on the other hand, achieves an impressive visual effect. The unit weighs almost 700g less than its predecessor and looks almost otherworldly, giving the KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R an all-new, combative sheen. Position and daytime running lights are located in the profile of the headlamp, which automatically adjusts its intensity to the ambient light conditions thanks to a light sensor integrated into the instrument cluster.
In addition, the KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R and the KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R EVO are equipped with a coming home light function as standard. For example, the headlamp remains on for a certain period of time after the ignition has been switched off in order to improve visibility in the surrounding area. This also benefits safety when parking the motorcycle in dark environments.
In keeping with its muscular stature, the wild BEAST also received a larger heart. This is a revised version of the LC8 engine – so it's clear who is the alpha animal in the area. The bore has been enlarged to 110 mm, resulting in a displacement of 1,350 cc, while the cylinder heads are fitted with an all-new camshaft adjuster. This increases power and torque throughout the rev range and achieves a more differentiated fuel mapping to comply with the latest EURO 5+ standard.
This performance is brought to the ground by new, lightweight MICHELIN Power GP tyres with dual-compound technology, as well as a new WP APEX shock absorber that is fully adjustable, with separate adjusters for high- and low-speed compression, as well as manual adjustment of rebound and preload. Improved DCC settings allow for better pressure equalization, which requires less compromise between suspension comfort and performance. At the same time, the new WP Apex open-cartridge fork with 48 mm diameter and split function offers optimized settings.
On the KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R EVO, on the other hand, suspension management has been taken to a whole new level with the use of the latest generation WP Semi-Active Technology (SAT). As the most advanced suspension system on the market, it is equipped with electronically controlled solenoid valves for variable damping and features a wide range of adjustment options – from maximum comfort on the road to an extremely stiff set-up for the racetrack.
In this system, the SCU (Suspension Control Unit) adjusts the damping rates in real time via solenoid valves, taking into account road conditions and driving style.
But that's not all: both the KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R and KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R EVO debut with a revised PERFORMANCE and TRACK riding mode, complete with lap timer and telemetry stats, as well as optional ENGINE BRAKE CONTROL and an updated SUSPENSION PRO module for the KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R EVO.
In addition, the KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R and KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R EVO are available in a special colour scheme to mark the 30th anniversary of DUKE – a reference to the orange colour scheme of the 2005 KTM 990 SUPER DUKE.
Riders are offered a full range of specially developed KTM PowerParts and KTM PowerWear so that they can not only equip their bikes to their personal liking, but also give themselves a READY TO RACE image.
Towards the end of the year, KTM will be giving away a brand new KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R. If you don't want to miss out on this opportunity, subscribe to the KTM newsletter at KTM.com and automatically take part in the raffle.
