For more than 90 years, the two-cylinder boxer engine has been an integral part of BMW's technical and optical identity. But in the course of the increasing electrification of the BMW Group, the question arises: What could a BMW motorcycle with electric drive look like? And how do you make it recognizable as a BMW Motorcycle at first glance? One possible answer is the BMW Motorrad Vision DC Roadster, a highly emotional Naked bike with electric drive.
In a motorcycle, the motor is the core, a supporting functional element. It forms the basis for the complete architecture. However, electrical drive components place completely different requirements on the installation spaces. While in the case of the combustion engine, the engine size is mainly determined by the displacement, in the case of electric drives, the accumulator is the most spatial element. The electric motor itself is relatively compact. Based on these new prerequisites, the BMW Vision DC Roadster manages to transfer the appearance of a boxer and fill it with a new function, according to the manufacturer.
