Photos: Triumph The NEW Speed Twin 900: Every ride becomes something special
For the upcoming motorcycle season, the Speed Twin 900 from TRIUMPH will be significantly improved in all areas: The successful model comes with a comprehensive update to the chassis and design and also has numerous new technology features on board. The unmistakable "Modern Classics" DNA, the particularly easy handling and the brand's typical high-quality workmanship of the popular bike remain unchanged.
They are the epitome of a classically styled motorcycle for all areas of use: The Speed Twin 900 and the predecessor Street Twin model were and have been among the British brand's best-selling bikes worldwide for years. This is not surprising, because the timelessly stylish look, the powerful 900cc Bonneville twin and the safe and light-footed handling leave nothing to be desired when it comes to uncomplicated two-wheeler fun with that certain something. In addition, there is a finely tuned package of driver-oriented technology and top-level workmanship. But since there is nothing that can't be done even better, TRIUMPH is launching an all-new version of the Speed Twin 900 for the 2025 season with numerous high-quality updates.
Strikingly colourful or elegantly restrained: a wide range of colours for the Speed Twin 900
With this package, the new Speed Twin 900 offers a more modern driving experience as well as another plus in terms of agility. It now has an upside-down fork with matching sports mudguard and fork protectors at the front. At the rear, a new aluminium swingarm and higher-quality suspension struts with expansion tanks are used. In addition, there is a narrower rear frame, a slimmer mudguard and a more compact rear light to match.
All these updates provide a more dynamic ride and sportier style, while the Speed Twin retains its classic look and the concept of an easily accessible motorcycle. In addition, the seat is now slightly slimmer and shaped in such a way that it better supports the rider when cornering. At the same time, the new bike offers the rider an even better stance thanks to a narrower stride curve.
The Speed Twin 900 is powered by TRIUMPH's famous 900cc Bonneville twin-cylinder engine in the high-torque "High Torque" version. The engine combines the casual character of a classic with modern performance and efficiency. It offers a powerful torque of 80 Nm at 3,800 rpm and thus ensures the best torque from low revs. In addition, it naturally spoils the driver with the characteristic "British Twin" sound.
Even more valuable, but still unmistakable: the new LED headlight of the Speed Twin 900
The new Speed Twin 900 is equipped with high-quality components and the latest, driver-oriented technology. Combined with a comfortable riding position, the bike offers an extremely effortless riding experience that is even more fun and exciting than before. In addition, the TRIUMPH scores with first-class workmanship, high-quality materials and numerous elaborately crafted and elegantly designed details. With more than 120 original accessories, the Speed Twin can be easily adapted to each rider's individual style, making it a personal, modern classic.
Steve Sargent, Chief Product Officer of TRIUMPH, says: "The design of the new Speed Twin 900 has been evolved to be slimmer and more dynamic, without neglecting the classic design features that define the timeless style. The bike is also more agile and easier to manoeuvre, as we have made changes to the chassis and equipment that make a big difference in the aggregate. From conversations with our customers, we know that the Speed Twin 900's enduring appeal is also due to its top-of-the-line equipment, high-quality workmanship and great reliability, as well as the emblem on the tank that the owners are proud of. As always, our goal is to deliver more of what the riders value."
AS COOL AS IT IS ELEGANT: THE DESIGN OF THE SPEED TWIN 900
The redesigned fuel tank now has a sportier design. In combination with the side covers, which have also been redesigned, and the stylised throttle body covers, the motorcycle has a more targeted, dynamic line. In addition, the engine covers are now slimmer, the silencer shorter and the headlight unit more compact.
Nevertheless, many details of the Bonneville engine are as authentic and beautiful as ever. The bright, milled cooling fins on the cylinder head and the finned manifold clamps are joined by brushed stainless steel exhaust manifolds and shorter, raised and black-painted silencers with brushed stainless steel end caps. This sporty look continues in all the details of the bike, including a new, foldable aluminum fuel cap and a lighter design of the heel guards and footpegs.
Updates in many details: here are the new engine covers and heel guards of the Speed Twin 900
The new Speed Twin 900 is available in three different colour variants. The rider can choose between a sporty Pure White with bright blue and orange stripes on the tank, an atmospheric look in Phantom Black with dark grey stripes and gold accents or the elegant version in Aluminium Silver with a red border of the TRIUMPH logo.
LIGHTWEIGHT, AGILE RIDE
The modern, high-performance chassis of the Speed Twin 900 ensures maximum driving pleasure and confidence as well as the best safety. The high-quality Marzocchi upside-down front fork, paired with the Marzocchi Stereo shock absorbers with reservoirs and variable preload at the rear, ensures responsive handling. The new, stiffer and lighter aluminium swingarm ensures more precise line selection and a relaxed or dynamic ride, depending on the rider's preference. The slightly reduced travel on the rear wheel (from 120 mm to 110 mm) improves control without sacrificing comfort.
The new wheels of the Speed Twin 900 are equipped with Michelin Road Classic tires and support the bike's light-footed handling. The powerful and progressive four-piston radial caliper with TRIUMPH branding in conjunction with a larger 320 mm front rotor ensures the best braking performance.
The seating position has also been revised and now offers more legroom and a further improved driving experience. In keeping with the now narrower frame in this area, the seat also has a new shape, so that the rider benefits from a narrower stride arch. A low seat is also available as an accessory, which reduces the seat height by 20 mm from 780 mm to 760 mm without compromising comfort.
CHARACTERFUL BONNEVILLE TWIN
The characterful 900 cc Bonneville twin ensures that the power is available at all times. The engine offers 65 hp of peak power at 7,500 rpm and plenty of torque over the entire rev range. For example, 80 Nm is already available at a very low 3,800 rpm. Power delivery is controlled with the efficiency and precision of a modern ride-by-wire system.
CONFIDENCE-INSPIRING TECHNOLOGY
The goal for the new Speed Twin 900 was to offer more functionality while maintaining the clean, tradition-inspired design and pure driving experience. Two riding modes, "Road" and "Rain", help to adjust the torquey power delivery as required. For example, the "Rain" mode offers a softer throttle response for a safer driving experience in wet conditions. Both systems – the ABS and the traction control – now work in "Optimised Cornering" mode as standard, i.e. they are lean angle dependent.
PREMIUM AMENITIES
The new instrument panel offers more functionality and features a large, bright LCD display for RPM, speed and gear indicator. A TFT display is also integrated, which shows additional information such as the driver mode. This full-color screen is compatible with the heated grips available as accessories, as well as the Bluetooth connectivity module, which offers arrow navigation as well as the ability to access and control phone calls and music from the mobile phone.
Another innovation is the cruise control, which is available as an accessory. It provides Speed Twin riders with more comfort and convenience, especially on longer rides. There is also a USB-C socket on the side of the panel, which can be used to conveniently charge mobile devices.
With its stripped-down design with just one dial, the new central instrument helps to maintain the elegant style of the Speed Twin 900, but at the same time provides more riding information in a clear and easy-to-read way.
The new full-LED lighting, including a sleek daytime running light headlight with a redesigned, lighter mount, ensures optimal visibility and adds a modern twist to the bike's classic design.
EASY TO CUSTOMIZE
TRIUMPH's official range of accessories offers more than 120 ways for Speed Twin 900 owners to create their own personal motorcycle. From practical options such as heated handles or waxed cotton bags, to pieces that accentuate the classic lines or add a custom touch, there are plenty of styling details to create a distinctive, individual look.
For novice drivers with an A2 driving licence, a throttle set is available for the new Speed Twin 900 as an accessory for installation at the dealer. It offers the same distinctive style and overall performance, but with limited engine power that ensures a smooth, controllable and confidence-inspiring ride. Owners can easily convert the bike back to full power when they upgrade their license, so the new Speed Twin 900 grows with their experience.
PRICES AND AVAILABILITY AT DEALERS
The new Speed Twin 900 will go on sale from February 2025 at prices starting at 9,995 euros.
This new model also offers a very attractive overall package – including long maintenance intervals of 16,000 km and a full 4-year manufacturer's warranty with no mileage limit as well as a 2-year mobility warranty.
