For more than 40 years, the abbreviation "RS" has been associated with the BMW boxer engine for sports touring par excellence. For the highest level of sporty, dynamic touring experience, the R 1250 RS is now even more innovative and sophisticated.
In conjunction with the boxer engine, the legendary BMW Motorrad abbreviation "RS" is synonymous in the world of sport touring par excellence with sporty, dynamic driving pleasure on country roads and at the same time superior comfort on extended tours. Sporty gait with low leans or long-distance stages par force for two and with holiday luggage – a BMW RS has always mastered both. To ensure that this remains the case in the future, BMW Motorrad has added a number of new standard features and optional extras to the new R 1250 RS – for even more dynamic riding pleasure and relaxed sports touring enjoyment at the highest level.
As before, the legendary two-cylinder boxer engine ensures powerful propulsion. It still has a displacement of 1,254cm3 and also delivers 100 kW (136 hp) in the current EU5 registration. Thanks to BMW ShiftCam technology for varying valve timing and valve lift on the intake side, it offers unspoilt power over the entire engine speed range, smooth running and refinement as well as excellent fuel consumption and emission values.
Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and new "ECO" driving mode as standard. Driving modes Pro with driving mode preselection and engine drag torque control (MSR) as optional extra.
Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) ensures high driving safety through the best possible traction as standard. With the new "ECO" driving mode, which is now also standard, the driver is encouraged and supported to drive as fuel-efficiently as possible.
The ECO riding mode makes it possible to use the innovative BMW Motorrad ShiftCam engine technology primarily in such a way that maximum range can be achieved. In ECO mode, the driver is encouraged to drive as fuel-efficiently as possible with a soft throttle characteristic curve and moderate engine torque limitation. The TFT colour display supports this in ECO mode with an efficiency display in the upper status bar. If you want maximum performance – for example, for overtaking with a high load or uphill – you can quickly and easily switch to another driving mode via the driving mode button.
As an optional extra, the new R 1250 RS can be equipped with the Pro driving modes option. Among other things, it provides further, individually configurable driving modes. With the driving mode preselection, the driver can place an individual selection of driving modes on the driving mode button. Engine drag torque control (MSR) is also part of Pro driving modes. It can be used to reliably avoid unstable driving conditions that can occur during coasting or downshifting due to excessive brake slip on the rear wheel.
BMW Integral ABS Pro (semi-integral) and Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) as standard.
As a popular sports tourer, the latest edition of the R 1250 RS presents itself with the standard BMW Integral ABS Pro. This is a braking system that offers even more safety when braking – even when leaning – and thinks even further ahead, so to speak. With the further expansion of the driving mode concept, further new functions are also being added. For example, the extended adaptation of the ABS control characteristics to the respective driving mode. In addition, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) also supports the driver during emergency braking manoeuvres. It offers even more safety when braking, even in difficult situations, by avoiding unintentional throttle actuation. By intervening with the engine management system, the drive torque during braking is reduced and the braking power at the rear wheel is fully utilised. As a result, the motorcycle remains stable and the braking distance is shortened.
TFT colour display with core screen "Sport", newly designed LED indicators and iconic daytime running lights as standard.
As before, the new R 1250 RS is equipped with a TFT colour display with integrated arrow navigation and extensive connectivity. Excellent readability, clear menu navigation and a highly integrated operating concept mark the top position among the production motorcycles. It offers tailor-made screen displays for various purposes. These include the Core Screen "Sport" screen, which provides real-time information about the driven and maximum lean angle and also control interventions – such as ABS Pro or DTC. Redesigned LED turn signals (also for the USA) and the iconic daytime running lights (not permitted in all countries; without daytime running light function, the lighting icon is designed as a position light) round off the new series features in the field of electrics and electronics.
USB socket and intelligent emergency call as standard. Seat heating for rider and pillion passenger for sharpened touring suitability as well as tubular handlebars as optional extras.
The new BMW R 1250 RS already offers two different sockets as standard. The previous 12-volt on-board voltage socket as well as an additional USB-A socket with 5 volt power supply. This most widely used USB socket type with newly developed charging electronics allows charging a smartphone while driving via the connection of a cable adapter. Up to 2,400 mA charging current is available, which enables fast charging depending on the smartphone type. Also standard on board is the Intelligent Emergency Call (eCall; not available in all countries) for rapid assistance in emergencies.
Seat heating for rider and pillion passenger as new optional equipment ex works also offers a significant increase in comfort at low outside temperatures. The seat heating is available in combination with two individual seats and is offered exclusively in combination with handle heating. A new, comfortable operating concept has been developed for the driver's seat heating with five heating levels. At the same time, the settings of the handle heating – in combination with the seat heating with five instead of two heating levels – are operated via a menu. The pillion seat heating has two heating levels and is operated via a toggle switch at the bottom left of the rear frame.
A tubular handlebar is now available as new optional equipment ex works as well as Original BMW Motorrad Accessories. The tubular handlebar is slightly wider and higher than the standard handlebar stubs and also less swept. In addition to the different rider seats available as optional equipment or Original BMW Motorrad accessories, the handlebar ergonomics of the R 1250 RS can now also be individually adapted to an even more relaxed and upright seating position.
Sport touring in style: The new R 1250 RS in an attractive base colour and in the two model variants Triple Black and Sport. New optional equipment solo rear.
In the basic version, the new BMW R 1250 RS signals its sharpened sports touring qualities and its all-round talents in the colour Lightwhite uni in conjunction with a black frame. With the Triple Black and Sport model variants available ex works as optional extras, two particularly expressive colour concepts are also available.
