In the future, the Bavarian police will be able to rely on the latest generation of police motorcycles: Today, Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann received the first five uniformed BMW R 1250 RT from Timo Resch, Head of Sales and Marketing BMW Motorrad, in the BMW Welt. These will be used at the Munich Police Headquarters.
"The BMW R 1250 RT is powerful, state-of-the-art and particularly safe," Herrmann said, praising the characteristics of the new police motorcycles. "This makes our police officers an excellent tool."
The Minister announced that the motorcycle groups in the other police presidencies will also benefit from the new police motorcycles. Seven other BMW motorcycles have already been ordered.
As Herrmann explained, the new police motorcycles are extensively equipped: "Maximum security for our police officers is paramount." Among other things, the machines feature the dynamic traction control DTC, the slant-dependent ABS Pro and the hill start aid Hill Start Control Pro. In addition, according to Herrmann, the new model was actively developed by police experts. For example, there are additional flash indicators in the rear, special reflective surfaces for better visibility and a radio antenna of the latest generation, which ensures optimal communication.
According to Herrmann, police motorcycles are an important tool. The Bavarian Police has a total of 250 police motorcycles, 170 of which are uniformed. The range of applications ranges from traffic monitoring to escorting of state guests. BMW Motorrad had already been awarded the contract in 2017 in the EU-wide tender for a multi-year framework contract for the supply of uniformed motorcycles to the Bavarian Police.
Timo Resch: "The government business has a long tradition at BMW Motorrad. Last year, we delivered to 2,500 government vehicles worldwide. We are very pleased to be able to hand over this new BMW R 1250 RT to the Bavarian Police today. The vehicles are developed in close cooperation between BMW Motorrad and the police. I think the anticipation of the operation is shared by everyone involved – including the policemen who will ride the motorcycles."
