Nowhere are there so many brands in the motorcycle industry as in Italy
In which country are there most brands for motorcycles and accessories? Maybe in Japan with the Big Four? No, it is Italy. Here there are not only a lot of manufacturers of motorcycles, but also a lot of well-known companies that produce biker clothes and accessories. We take a quick look at the neighbour and also look at the current motorcycle registration numbers.
Of course, honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki have the highest percentage of jobs in the motorcycle industry in Japan. But most companies that manufacture two-wheelers and products for the biker market are in Italy. On the one hand, of course, there are the well-known manufacturers of motorcycles such as Ducati, Aprilia and Moto Guzzi. But there are also the small and fine manufacturers that you like to forget: MV Agusta, Benelli, Fantic, Beta, Cagiva, Gilera, Energica, Moto Morini and of course one of the largest two-wheeler manufacturers in the world: Piaggio. Although some of these companies belong to other groups and now produce in Asia, they still have Italian roots and jobs in Italy. What many do not know: In addition to the two-wheelmanufacturers, there are a lot of well-known Italian manufacturers in the field of accessories and clothing. Examples pleasing? Dainese, Alpinestars, Nolan, Caberg, Rizoma, Givi, Brembo, Pirelli etc.
The approvals of new two-wheelers in Italy are roughly comparable to the German new registrations - but only if the scooters, which are extremely popular in southern countries, are also taken into account. A total of 52,050 vehicles were registered in Italy from January to May 2019 for motorcycles over 125 cc. In Germany, there were 63,685 vehicles. The situation for scooters, on the other hand, is quite different: 58,136 scooters were sold in Italy during the period mentioned, while in Germany only 15,320 were sold.
The best-selling two-wheeler in Italy is currently the scooter "Honda SH" (125, 300 and 150) on the registration ranks 1.2 and 4. Only in 6th place in Italy follows the first "real" motorcycle: of course the BMW R 1250 GS.
